Theatre Studies at Utrecht University
Utrecht University, founded in 1636, is one of the best universities in the world and is ranked 11th in Europe, 1st in the Netherlands, and 52nd in the world on the Shanghai university ranking list. Theatre Studies at Utrecht University is part of the department of Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University. This department also includes Film and Theatre Studies, Musicology, Gender Studies, New Media and Digital Culture, and Art Policy and Management. Many collaborations occur, both at the level of education and research. Herein, the interplay between the mediatisation of cultural heritage and the mediatisation of culture plays an important role, not only from the perspective of performativity and theatricality, but also highlights the connected questions of the specificity of various media and their underlying relations: intermediality, crossmediality, and transmediality. Theatre Studies research and education focuses specifically on current developments in theatre and dance from an interdisciplinary, intermedial, and international perspective.

Festival a/d Werf
Festival a/d Werf is an annual festival that takes place at a wide range of locations, steeping the city of Utrecht in culture for ten days each May. The installations, theatre, dance and music performances are known for its large experimental content. Productions from young artists, partly developed in Huis a/d Werf, are shown next to the creations of internationally renowned makers. It is a festival for artists with a unique view on the world and for audiences unafraid of questioning their own perspectives.
This year, the 26th edition of Festival a/d Werf (19th to 28th of May) carries the motto Take it personal! It refers to dealing with important social and political issues such as interculturality, migration, war and conflict of generations, as well as to accessibility and to personal views from artists from several countries. The new artistic director Rainer Hofmann presents work which combines social and political awareness with the search for an adequate contemporary form. About 25 productions from all fields of performing arts will be shown. Part of these will come from Huis a/d Werf, the production house of the festival.

Kommerz – identity, strategy & editorial design
Kommerz is a Rotterdam-based office for identity, strategy & editorial design, founded by Bram Nijssen and Marcel van den Berg in 2010. Through thoughtful analysis of the assignment, its social context, and the feel for the perception by the user, Kommerz aims to render thinking as form, process and experience. Kommerz subscribes at the same time to a quote of French philosopher Marie José-Mondzain: “Contrary to the instant immediate readability of communication messages, the graphic designer produces objects that require time and demand patience to construct the divergent forms. To produce visual enigmas which stimulate thought and invite speech is the only way for graphic design to participate in the creation of common space. Not a world where we are ‘as one’, but a world where there is dispute and exchange in the multiplicity of differences and divergences. A world that is a jumble of continual motion.”

Klein Dytham architecture / PechaKucha
PechaKucha was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. Since then, it has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace. It also requires that images and ideas become performances.
In the Shift 'Camillo 2.0 x PechaKucha' that is presented at PSi #17, this format has been adapted to performance studies research. Part conference presentation, part improvisation, part media, and all performance, the PechaKucha shift gives scholars and artists the opportunity to showcase their work in a dynamic, visual, and interactive environment and conference participants the chance to view performance studies scholarship in a totally new way. Presenters prepare 20 slides of anything--texts, photographs, images, diagrams, colors, nothing--and then each slide appears for 20 seconds. Once the slideshow starts, the presenters have 20 seconds per slide (6 minutes and 40 seconds total) to perform and present while the audience comes along for the ride. This unique format is devised and shared by Klein Dytham architecture.
